Christian Knorr von Rosenroth
německý učenec, básník
Christian Knorr von Rosenroth was a 17th-century German scholar who made significant contributions to the fields of Hebrew studies and Christian Cabala. Born in Alt-Raudten, Silesia, he pursued higher education at the universities of Wittenberg and Leipzig, laying the foundation for his future academic endeavors. His travels took him to various countries, including the Netherlands, France, and England, where he engaged with prominent figures such as an Armenian prince, Rabbi Meier Stern, Dr. John Lightfoot, and Henry More.
As a result of these interactions, Knorr von Rosenroth developed a keen interest in Oriental languages, chemistry, and cabalistic sciences. He eventually settled in Sulzbach, where he served as a privy counsellor to Christian Augustus, Count Palatine of Sulzbach. Knorr von Rosenroth's academic pursuits focused on Hebrew studies, and he later delved into the Kabbalah, seeking to establish connections between its principles and Christian doctrine. Through his work, he aimed to demonstrate the congruence between these two spiritual traditions, leaving a lasting impact on the field of Christian Cabala.
