Zvi Yehuda Kook

Zvi Yehuda Kook was a prominent figure in Religious Zionism, serving as a key leader and ultranationalist Orthodox rabbi. Born in 1891, he was the son of Abraham Isaac Kook, a highly influential rabbi who held the position of the first Ashkenazi chief rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine. This lineage played a significant role in shaping Zvi Yehuda's own spiritual and ideological path.

As a leading exponent of Religious Zionism, Zvi Yehuda Kook, along with his father, developed the philosophical and theological framework known as Kookian Zionism. This ideology would eventually become the dominant form of Religious Zionism. In addition to his contributions to the movement, Zvi Yehuda Kook held the esteemed position of Rosh Yeshiva, or dean, of the Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, further solidifying his impact on Jewish thought and education. He passed away in 1982, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the realm of Judaism.
