Eliot Glassheim

American politician (1938–2019)

Eliot Glassheim was a prominent American politician who dedicated his life to public service. Born in 1938, he embarked on a lengthy career in politics, initially serving as a Representative in the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1975. He later represented the 18th district from 1993 to 2017, as a member of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party. In addition to his state-level involvement, Glassheim was also actively engaged in local politics, serving on the Grand Forks City Council for three decades, from 1982 to 2012.

Beyond his political pursuits, Glassheim was a man of diverse interests and talents. He held academic degrees from esteemed institutions, including a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. As a entrepreneur, he founded and owned Dr. Eliot's Twice Sold Tales, a used bookstore, until January 2015. Glassheim was also a writer, having authored several books and poems throughout his life. He passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service and a multifaceted personality that extended far beyond the realm of politics.
