Isaac ben Melchizedek

Isaac ben Melchizedek was a prominent rabbinic scholar of the 12th century, hailing from Siponto, Italy. He made significant contributions to the field of Judaism, particularly through his work as a commentator on the Mishnah. As one of the earliest medieval scholars to undertake this endeavor, his commentary played a crucial role in shaping the understanding of this foundational Jewish text.
Although much of Isaac ben Melchizedek's work has been lost to time, his commentary on Seder Zera'im has survived, providing valuable insights into his scholarly approach. Additionally, fragments of his commentary on the Mishnaic order of Taharot are cited by the Tosafists, demonstrating the enduring impact of his scholarship. Despite the incomplete nature of his surviving works, Isaac ben Melchizedek's contributions to the study of the Mishnah remain an important part of Jewish intellectual history.
