Percy Yutar was a prominent South African lawyer, born in 1911, who made a significant mark in the country's legal history. His career was notable for being the first Jewish attorney-general in South Africa, a position that underscored his professional achievements and contributions to the legal field.
Yutar's most notable case was as the state prosecutor in the Rivonia trial, a landmark legal proceeding that drew international attention. In this trial, he prosecuted anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela and seven other defendants, who were ultimately convicted of sabotage and sentenced to life imprisonment. Yutar passed away in 2002, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy as a key figure in South Africa's complex legal and political landscape during the apartheid era.
