Seymour Cassel
American actor (1935–2019)
Seymour Cassel was a prolific American actor with a career that spanned over five decades and included appearances in more than 200 films and television shows. Born in 1935, Cassel initially gained recognition in the 1960s for his work in the independent films of John Cassavetes, a pioneering writer and director. His early collaborations with Cassavetes included the 1961 film Too Late Blues, which marked the beginning of a long-standing professional relationship between the two.
Cassel's performances in Cassavetes's films earned him numerous accolades, including an Academy Award nomination and a National Society of Film Critics Award for his role in the 1968 film Faces. He continued to work with Cassavetes on several other projects, including Minnie and Moskowitz, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, Opening Night, and Love Streams, released between 1971 and 1984. Throughout his extensive career, Cassel established himself as a talented and versatile actor, leaving a lasting impact on the film industry until his passing in 2019.
