Stanley Fischer was a distinguished economist who held prominent positions in various esteemed institutions. Born in 1943 in Northern Rhodesia, he possessed dual citizenship in Israel and the United States. Throughout his career, Fischer demonstrated his expertise in the field of economics, serving as the governor of the Bank of Israel from 2005 to 2013 and holding key roles in international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Fischer's impressive career trajectory also included his tenure as the vice chair of the Federal Reserve, a position he held from 2014 to 2017. He was nominated to this role by President Barack Obama in January 2014. Fischer resigned from his position as vice chair in October 2017, citing personal reasons.
