Vera Gissing

česká spisovatelka

Vera Gissing was a Czech-British writer who made significant contributions to the field of literature. Born in 1928, she spent her life navigating the complexities of her dual heritage, which would later influence her writing. As a child, Gissing was one of the many young people saved by the heroic actions of Nicholas Winton, earning her a place among the group known as "Winton's children".

Gissing's experiences during this time were not isolated, as she was accompanied by her sister, Eva Hayman, who would go on to become a notable diarist and nurse. As Gissing grew older, she developed a passion for writing and translation, eventually establishing herself as a respected figure in the literary world. Her life's work was marked by a dedication to her craft, and she remained a prominent voice in literature until her passing in 2022.
